From breathtaking color grading that inspires creators to an emotional scale that rivals Avengers: Doomsday, the final trailer for Dune: Part Three proves that Denis Villeneuve has built modern cinema’s greatest spectacle.
Dunesday is approaching. In all seriousness, the final Dune: Part Three trailer is out now, and I’m completely hyped.
It’s funny saying that now because this franchise took a while to actually hold my interest. When I first tried watching Dune: Part One, I called it “sleepy Tremors.” It just didn’t click with me right away. Then the trailer for Dune: Part Two dropped, and I knew I had to give this world a real second chance.
It honestly took me eight tries to finally get all the way through Dune: Part One, but we got there. While the first movie still isn’t my favorite, it's one that I enjoy more now that I see the bigger picture. Dune: Part Two, on the other hand, is a movie that I love (it should have won Best Picture). Every time I watch it, it feels like a first-time experience all over again.
The Craft of the Grade and Inspiring the Creator
Watching this final trailer right now, the very first thing that jumps out to me is that the color grade looks incredible. The overall look of the film is absolutely stunning, and the colors throughout every frame are beautiful. You can tell they’re clearly increasing the scale, scope, and size of this world, and it definitely needs to be seen on the big screen.
Production quality is something that really matters to me. One of the main things I love to analyze when I’m watching movies like this is figuring out how I can recreate scenes at this level. Honestly, when I look at Dune: Part Three, I find myself thinking that I want to be able to color grade at this level. Clearly, I don’t have a massive studio budget and I’m nowhere near that skill level yet, but this is the exact kind of filmmaking that inspires someone like me to keep pushing my own craft.
An Event on the Scale of Doomsday
Looking at the sheer size of this footage, it feels much more like a true cinematic epic rather than just another end to a trilogy. It truly feels like this is going to be an event.
I’m thinking about it in comparison to Avengers: Doomsday because of the Dunesday release hype, and what blows my mind is how Denis Villeneuve achieved this scale. We’re getting a massive, cultural event finale, and we were able to get to this point without needing 30-plus movies to precede it. It feels like a complete, earned journey, and I’m so excited to see how it ends.
Going in Blind: Anya Taylor-Joy and Emotional Stakes
What I actually enjoy most going into this finale is the fact that I’ve never read the Dune books. I know nothing about how this is going to end, and I don’t want to know.
Even without knowing the book lore, there are so many layers in this trailer that are intriguing to me, especially the inclusion of Paul’s sister being played by Anya Taylor-Joy. It’s clear that this isn’t just going to be an action-packed film that tops Part Two, but one that’s going to be deeply emotional. That final moment at the end of the trailer where Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet embrace honestly gave me goosebumps.
“Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Absolutely Corrupts”
What the final trailer shows is something darker. It’s set nearly two decades after the end of Dune: Part Two, and Paul has seized so much power, not just politically, but his actual powers have grown as well. In the trailer, he uses the Voice on Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, to get information. Chani is shown openly opposing, wrestling with it and fighting back. Robert Pattinson's Scytale is clearly scheming against Paul's rule. Jason Momoa is back somehow as Hayt. We get our first full look at Anya Taylor-Joy's Alia, who has an incredibly unsettling introduction while covered in blood in a shot that is both beautiful and disturbing. I am not going to spoil how any of this ends because I can't, I don't even know how it ends, and that is something I am excited about. The trailer makes it clear that this is not just a war movie. It’s a political thriller about how power corrupts, and absolute power absolutely corrupts.
Watching that immediately made me want to go back and rewatch Dune: Part One and Part Two. Let’s see how many tries it takes me to get through Part One this time around. Fortunately, Part Two never fails at holding my attention. I just wish I could see it in IMAX one more time. Fingers crossed for that.
Stepping Into Arrakis: Dune: The Experience in L.A.
Dune: Part Three officially releases in theaters on December 18, 2026. If you can’t wait that long and need some Dune to hold you over, there’s actually something coming up a bit sooner: Dune: The Experience.
Dune: The Experience opens on November 20 in Downtown Los Angeles at 330 S. Alameda Street, and tickets are on sale now on Fever. It’s a walkthrough experience that takes you through the trilogy, where you can take the Bene Gesserit test, see behind the magic of the films, and get up close to authentic props and costumes, with photo opportunities throughout. You also get themed food and drink in the Dune-inspired lounge and exclusive merchandise. It’s the perfect way to hold you over until the film releases, and I am planning to check it out when it opens myself.
